Review Analysis

The title of the review I chose is Roger Hiorns; Lucy Raven: Edge of Tomorrow – review which analyses two different exhibitions: one at Ikon Gallery (Birmingham) with Roger Hiorns and one at Serpentine Gallery (London) with Lucy Raven.

The author of this review is Laura Cumming. She is the art critic for The Observer. In addition to her journalistic career , Laura has written well-received books on self-portraits in art and the discovery of a lost portrait by Diego Velazquez in 1845.

I chose this review because I find the themes of the exhibitions and the development of the pieces interesting. However the critic did not enjoy the exhibition as much as she thought she would. It can be seen by the negative adjectives and words used to describe them especially when she describes Lucy Raven’s exhibition: “plenty of ideas, not enough art “, “boring”, “it is nothing but diminishing returns”.

At the end of the review Laura gave star ratings out of 5:

Roger Hiorns ★★★
Lucy Raven ★
